New Media Manager
Job Description:
Oxfam America, one of the nation’s most innovative, agile, and influential international development organizations, seeks a talented leader to head and expand its new media program. Oxfam America is a dynamic organization that has grown tremendously over the past decade. It has a staff of over 300 people with headquarters in Boston and offices in Washington DC, the US Gulf Coast, and six developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
NEW MEDIA MANAGER
The vision and agenda for Oxfam America is ambitious and far-reaching. The New Media manager will play a pivotal role in building the large US constituency needed to end global poverty through global campaign wins and by increasing numbers of donors and funding for innovative programs.
The broad responsibilities of the new New Media Manager include:
* Lead a team of online communications specialists to develop and execute aggressive strategies to recruit, nurture, mobilize, and engage a large online constituency on behalf of Oxfam America’s mission.
* Serve as an integral member of the senior campaigning staff, serving as the new media lead for a team from campaigns, organizing and government affairs and mobilizing influential constituencies at key moments to drive change in the attitudes of the public and policy makers to affect policy at the national and global levels.
* Serve as a key player in the fundraising team developing and executing integrated online and offline marketing strategies to maintain our base of loyal donors, attract new supporters, meet online fundraising targets and support donor operations systems requirements.
* Maximize Oxfam’s presence in social networking arenas and other relevant online user groups.
* Develop compelling content for online actions and advocacy and fundraising pages, to keep Oxfam’s online face fresh and compelling.
* Continually expand Oxfam’s reach through new approaches and technologies such as text, twitter, themed-giving, community fundraising, and other emerging online tools.
* Cultivate partnerships and alliances with key players in the online arena, inclusive of other NGOs, advocacy groups and corporations.
* Ensure close monitoring of Oxfam’s progress in cultivating its online constituency through management of the online data and analytics program. Oversee data maintenance and reporting and serve as the senior liaison to the CRM vendor for feature implementation.
* Manage the internal workings of the New Media unit. Develop and manage the budget, mentor staff.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERTISE
Education:
* Successful candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree.
Experience and Core Competencies:
Successful candidates must have:
* A track record of success in mobilizing online constituencies to meet organizational goals.
* 5-7 years experience in online communications, with at least two years in campaigns and/or fundraising.
* Demonstrated success in building and maintaining positive and productive relationships with co-workers, constituents, and colleagues in other organizations
* Experience with online CRM systems. Convio preferred.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills, emphasis on marketing style for the web.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Additional considerations:
It is preferable for candidates to also have:
* Prior management experience in a not-for-profit agency.
